The Secret Lives of Pets

Before I dig in, I must confess, my 2 kids loved this movie.  They are young, so a sign of a good movie for them is that they don't wander up and down the isle staring at others watching the movie.

So, even though they loved it, I found the movie to be a bit formulaic.  The plot and jokes were a bit predictable.  The animation style is easily as good as todays standard well animated TV shows.  I found the lack of "realism" to be too cartoonish given the relatively realistic animation.  So, when I watch the Looney Tunes, the animation style is as goofy as the laws of physics, but in this movie the animation set up a fairly real tone, but then had Looney Tune physics and this was distracting.

I do have a bit of a bias though.  Our family dog is a cute Basset Hound named Buckles, so this connection help me fall in and enjoy elements of the movie.

Overall, good entertainment for the kiddos, but fairly weak and predictable for us adults.  Definitely just rent it or better yet borrow it from a friend whos kid suckered them into buying it.
